ESL Resources for Teachers in Need of Assistance and Guidance

Over my years teaching English  I have spent many many hours searching the internet looking for lesson plans, materials and general advice. There is a wealth of information out there. To help out new  ESL teachers and ones that have been teaching for a while and are looking for something new I thought I’d compile an ever growing list of some of the best resources that I find both off and online. If you have an ESL resource that you think would be a great addition to this list feel free to contact me.

ESL Authority is a site aimed at teachers who are looking for jobs abroad and subsequently need help and advice to achieve it. They have a TEFL jobs board that is updated daily. As of the time of writing the majority of jobs advertised  are in Asia. They also offer country specific advice for those who may not be familiar with the local ways. They also have a few country specific blogs ( China, Japan, Korea and Online) that offer even more insight into teaching.

They also have a general ESL teaching blog where they write helpful articles about teaching. I recently contributed an article called “6 Fun Ways to Teach Vocabulary to Your English Students“. If you would like any ideas for games or activities to teach vocabulary I’d suggest checking it out.

From the creator of ESL Authority – “The mission of ESL Authority is to provide up to date information advice for anyone looking to teach abroad. Founded by a teacher, we do our best to research, consolidate, and present everything a teacher would need to start their job hunt in a new country.”

Film English offers creative, video based lesson plans. Each video is accompanied by a lesson plan, I normally adapt these a little bit to suit my students needs but when I was just a newbie ESL teacher they provided a great guide and were truly invaluable.

One of the great things I like about Film English is that there is such a variety of videos. The creator Kieran Donaghy has been creating materials and teaching for over 25 years. The site has received a number of rewards and is highly regarded in the ESL teachers community.
